Shivam Kumar Jha is a Fullstack Developer at Mercari India with a passion for OpenSource and a strong belief in the power of Python. He has 4.95 years of relevant experience in the field of Microservices, Backend, Golang, PHP, infra, Kubernetes, test, Python, Software Engineering, Research Science, MySQL, Frontend, Web, AI, CI/CD, Javascript, Typescript, and Integration. At Mercari, Shivam is a part of the Master User Team where he designs, develops, and manages microservices of the Master domain. He has played a key role in the migration of master endpoints from HTTP endpoints written in PHP monolith to gRPC endpoints written in Golang. He has also led the OKR to reduce engineering hours required to update client configs from ~4 hrs/week to zero by migrating configs from a JSON-based store to Firebase. Shivam has a keen eye for cost optimization and has pioneered the decommissioning of unused microservices to save costs, and prepared an org-wide process to make it fast and safe to remove microservices not in use. Prior to Mercari, Shivam was the Head of Technology at IIT Technology Ambit, where he managed a team of 5+ members to create and maintain the technology infrastructure for the startup. He was responsible for curating a pure RESTful API with database handling using Object Relational Mapping to MySQL. Shivam also worked as the Students' Technology Coordinator at Technology Students' Gymkhana, IIT Kharagpur, where he implemented open source ethics and practices in document management, code sanitization, and CI/CD processes to streamline the development, testing, and deployment process. Shivam holds a Bachelor of Technology degree in Computer Science from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. He is an OpenSource enthusiast and a GSoC Mentor at CCExtractor. Shivam is intrigued by ancient philosophy, psychology, and mythology, and has a keen interest in medieval history and how it shaped the world.
